New web address for the forum

Due to some issues with none club members signing up, and the amount of time and effort needed to remove them, I have taken the decision to move the message board to a new address.

This forum is pretty similar in a lot of ways but gives better security.

(Important if you have registered for the existing site you will need to re-register at the new address. Sorry!!!)

You can get to the new message board via the link on the right of this page or by clicking here. I will put a re-direction on the old board if you have that bookmarked.

Press Release 02/08

Fenland Clarion CC Press Release –02/08

Fenland Clarion members Paul Asplin and Sharon Smith joined over 400 mountain bike riders this weekend at Thetford Forests High Lodge, to compete in the third event of their MTB Winter series.

Asplin had a great event and, despite battling against high winds and thick mud finished fourth in his category. He was competing against 110 other riders and managed to complete 4 laps of the strenuous 7.5 mile course in 2hours 28 min, only 8 min behind the winner.

Smith competed against 24 other women to come home in 14th position, completing 3 laps in 2hours 43min.

The last event of the winter series will be held on the 10th of February on the Brandon side of Thetford Forest, where Paul hopes to gain a podium finish for the series. With such an excellent start to the racing year the couple hope it will be good training for the upcoming Enduro6 race in April where they will be representing the Fenland Clarion club as a pair.

2007 Club Review

2007 was another successful year for the Peterborough based Fenland Clarion Cycling Club with the highlight being a bus load of yellow jersey wearing club members descending on the nations capital in July for the prologue of the Tour de France.

It was an early start in the car park of the cities Key Theatre and a surreal sight seeing club mates arriving clad in the special limited edition t-shirts, polos and hoodies. The yellow invasion turned plenty of heads once we arrived in London with one American spectator offering to buy the shirt off my back as a souvenir of their day!

The Tour was, of course, amazing and despite the challenges the race faced in its later weeks I think every Fenland Clarion member who made the trip will look back on it as a great experience and a day to remember.

The clubs socialising didn’t end on the Mall with another trip going to the Ghent 6 day late on in the year. Youngster James Frost taking some tips from none other than Eddy Merckx in trackside conversation.

The club was very active in racing both locally and nationally and caught the sportif bug with a group of riders heading to the continent to ride La Marmotte.

In terms of the club championshops, the prizes were dominated by Ian Waddilove who collected 7 wins during the season and was rightly club champion. His notable victories included the big three distances, 10, 25 and 50 miles.

Paul Lilley was another to collect a large haul with runners up placings in the Place to Place and Helpston Classic amongst others.

Simon Pitchford and Malcolm Jacklin both had productive seasons with great results from first to last and the clubs current crop of potential laden youngsters led by Simon Jacklin and Jordan Wilson will look back on this season as a launch pad in their fledgling cycling careers.
